Name: Lee Evans
Job Title: Deputy to Head of Service, Community Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy.
What job(s) did you do before this?
I am a physiotherapist by background and have worked in my current team at Alder Hey as a children’s physiotherapist since 2013. I commenced my management role in February 2021. Prior to working at Alder Hey, I worked as a junior rotational physiotherapist at NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group for 3 years.
Around my time of study to be a physiotherapist, I had a small number of other roles such as a care worker, health care assistant and physiotherapy assistant.
Briefly describe a typical day in your job role (tasks carried out)
I support a community service of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, therapy support workers and administration staff to help children, young people (and their families) with their physical needs, relating to long term neuro disability conditions. This could be at home, nursery, school or anywhere else in the community!
Every day for me is very different! In one day I could go from making finance decisions for the team, to speaking to families to improve our service, to supporting our staff with training, to recruitment of staff, to developing a new clinical pathway with therapists, to supporting a member of staff who may have a personal issue affecting work, to meeting with others managers to make sure that our staff and patients are safe, to meeting with commissioners to develop services across the region. The list is endless!
Have you had any special training/completed any qualifications?
I completed by BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy in 2009, attending Leeds Beckett University. Every day since then has been lifelong training! I have been fortunate to of completed lots of post graduate training with the support of Alder Hey. I have attended internal and external training courses (far too many to mention) but these include Management & Leadership, Research Training, Risk Assessor Training, Stress Management Training.
What would you say your key skills are? What type of person are you?
I would say my key skills include communication, teamwork, problem solving, adaptability and organisation. I am dedicated, compassionate and collaborative in everything that I do. I am incredibly passionate about empowering children and young people to reach their potential.
