Food and drink
Our Treetops restaurant in the hospital atrium serves teas and coffees, hot and cold breakfasts, lunches, and dinners from 8am each day (8.30am at weekends) and a range of fresh snacks, salads, and sandwiches throughout the day. There are vending machines available 24 hours a day.
There is a vegetarian food option every day that may provide a suitable alternative for some families. In addition, Halal and Kosher food options are available (frozen Hermolis preferably requested in advance). Disposable cutlery is available for all visitors in the restaurant and disposable crockery can be requested. A variety of food options are also available in inpatient wards, where our patient’s dietary needs and menu options can be discussed with the dedicated ward chef.
The atrium also has a Baguette Co, Costa Coffee and WHSmith (with a Marks and Spencer outlet).
Facilities for people with disabilities
All reception desks in the hospital have a hearing loop. There are disabled car parking spaces available on every floor of the multi-storey car park, and space for large wheelchair-accessible vehicles in our Emergency Department short-stay car park.
We have accessible disabled toilets throughout the hospital and Changing Places toilets on the ground floor and first floor.
Toilets and changing
There are two toilets located across the hospital building. There are also toilet facilities in every ward, including en-suites in private patient rooms.
Alder Hey is a breastfeeding-friendly hospital. You’ll find breastfeeding facilities in the atrium and on each floor.
In the atrium near the car park entrance, our Cash Office can help with queries about travel expenses. You’ll also find a free-to-use cash machine here. If the cash machine is not working, there are cash machines at the Sainsbury’s supermarket across East Prescot Road.
Free WiFi is available for patients and families throughout the hospital and our health campus. Just search for ‘Alder Hey Free Wi-Fi’ on your tablet, phone or laptop.
