Briefly describe a typical day in your job role (tasks carried out)
During a typical day I work in outpatients, seeing a wide variety of patients. I see new and follow up patients. I assess visual functions, eye alignment and binocular functions. As an Orthoptist, I give advice and management on improving visual acuity, diplopia (double vision) and asthenopia. Our department is a placement site for undergraduate students from the University of Liverpool, so I provide them with theoretical and practical experience.
Have you had any special training/completed any qualifications?
I went to the University of Liverpool where I studied Orthoptics for 3 years. Since graduating, I have completed a post-graduate neuro-ophthalmology module.
What would you say your key skills are? What type of person are you?
I am very hard working and organised. I am a kind person, who likes to do everything to the best of my abilities.
