Our hospital school at Alder Hey is part of Sandfield Park, which includes Sandfield, a Secondary School for pupils with additional needs, and Alder Centre for Education (ACE), a local authority service for pupils of Secondary age with mental health and high anxiety needs.
Teachers work closely with our medical professionals to help our children and young people continue their education whilst in hospital as well as provide an important element of normality.
Children who are well enough may have lessons on their ward from hospital school teachers or in Sunflower House, if they are staying there. Teachers may also contact the schools of children who are in hospital for longer stays to find out what work they are missing.
Hospital Education at Alder Hey teaches inpatients of legal school age and aims to provide a positive and enjoyable learning experience for all pupils within the National Curriculum framework.
