About Ward 3C
Ward 3C is our Medical Specialities ward. The team on the ward provide care for children and young people who need help with their digestive system (Gastroenterology), Kidneys (Renal), breathing (respiratory), hormones (endocrinology), swelling or pain around their joints (rheumatology) and lots of other conditions.
Patients on the ward range in age from birth up to 18 years of age, each with their own specific set of needs and challenges.
There are a total of 31 beds in Ward 3C separated into colour-coded zones: yellow, blue, green, and orange.
• The yellow, blue and green zones are patient rooms in Ward 3C with ensuite facilities
• The orange zone is made up of a 4-bedded bay with shared bathroom facilities
Ward 3C facilities
On Ward 3C, you’ll find a play area at the very end of the ward in the yellow zone. Patients and siblings are welcome to use this play space but must be supervised by an adult at all times.
There is also an outside play deck that can be accessed if the child is well enough and a member of staff is available to supervise.
Situated in the Blue pod is a parents’ area where you can make hot drinks (must always be in a cup with a lid, which are available in this area); there is also a fridge to store your food and drinks. Due to health and safety regulations, baby formula must not be prepared on the ward, and children are not allowed in the parents’ area
Ward 3C mealtimes
Ward 3C has its own dedicated ward chef who is on hand to provide your child with their meals, which they choose daily from the menu. The mealtimes on the ward are approximately 12pm for a freshly prepared light lunch and 4:30pm for a full evening meal.
A breakfast of cereal/toast is prepared by ward staff, and outside of mealtimes, ward staff can always provide cereal, toast, yoghurts, fruit and some other snacks.
Ward 3C visiting times
Visiting for parents/carers is open 24 hours/day, though we ask only one parent stays on the ward overnight. For anyone else visiting, hours on Ward 3C are between 1pm and 7pm daily. Please note that only parents or carers are allowed into the hospital after 8pm each day.
All visitors must press the entrance buzzer to gain access to Ward 3C. For health and safety reasons, please do not allow others to follow you into the ward.
Infection prevention
