About Ward 3B
Ward 3B is our haematology/oncology unit providing inpatient, outpatient and day-care facilities. There are 13 inpatient beds (4 of which are in the Teenage Cancer Trust unit on the ward). The day unit has 10 beds/chairs and is open from 7:30am – 7pm Monday – Friday.
We have colour-coded zones in Ward 3B: yellow, blue, green, and orange.
- The yellow, blue and green zones have individual side rooms with ensuite facilities and one 4-bedded bay with shared bathroom facilities.
- The orange zone is day care.
Ward 3B facilities
The playroom is open between 9am and 7pm for patients and siblings to use, provided an adult supervises them. The playroom can be found in inpatients on the far end of the ward in the yellow zone.
There is also a Teenage Social Hub in Ward 3B, which is an area for teenage patients on the unit to use. The hub hosts a pool table, TV, jukebox, and social space, and is situated next to the two teenage day care beds. The Teenage Social Hub is for teenagers and their families (if accompanying the young person) only. The teenage area was funded by The Teenage Cancer Trust. It is one of 28 units within NHS hospitals where young people aged 13 to 24 are treated in a place designed just for them.
There is a classroom on the ward with a teacher available during term-time.
There is a bed/sofa for one parent/carer to sleep next to their child. If you wish to do so, speak to someone on the ward to make arrangements.
At times, Ward 3B may be full, and although every effort is made to ensure your child is admitted to us, we may need to admit your child to another ward within the hospital. Please be reassured that your child’s care will remain with the oncology/haematology consultants and team who will review your child and plan of care daily. Nursing colleagues from the ward you are on will contact us if you have any concerns that they are unable to answer.
Ward 3B mealtimes
Ward 3B has its own dedicated ward chef who is on hand to provide your child with a selection of meals during their stay with us. Our chef will take orders for food for inpatients between 11am and 5pm and day care patients who are admitted for 2 hours or longer can order food 11am-4.30 pm.
Ward 3B visiting times
Parents/carers are welcome to visit their child at any time on the ward. Please note that only parents or carers are allowed into the hospital after 8pm each day. Regular visiting hours are between 1pm and 7pm on Ward 3B.
All visitors to the ward must press the entrance buzzer to gain access. For health and safety reasons, please do not allow others to follow you into the ward.
