We employ more than 20 full-time members of staff including physicians, nurses, a play specialist, trial coordinators, a pharmacist, information analysts and administrators. We are also a core function within the Clinical Research Division at Alder Hey which provides assistance with costings, contracts, regulatory governance and quality.
Dr Dan Hawcutt – CRF Director
The clinical lead on the CRF, Dr Hawcutt is one of six consultant paediatric clinical pharmacologists in the UK, and the only one engaged with early-phase paediatric clinical trials.
Dan is chair of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) College Specialty Advisory Committees (CSACs) for Clinical Pharmacology, responsible for training paediatricians in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics in the UK. Alder Hey CRF has one of only two specialist training posts for junior doctors to learn pharmacology and is the only one that provides CRF and early-phase trial experience and training.
Alder Hey supports and hosts the national training programme by hosting a study day. sits on both the Medicines and Healthcare Product Regulatory Agency (MHRA) pharmacovigilance and paediatric expert advisory groups.
Dr Steve McWilliam – CRF Clinical Lead
Steve has been a Consultant Paediatric Clinical Pharmacologist at Alder Hey since 2020 and is the clinical lead on the CRF.
Dr James Moss – CRF Consultant Paediatric Clinical Pharmacologist
Dr James Moss is a paediatric clinical pharmacologist and supports the conduct of early phase clinical studies on the NIHR funded clinical research facility at Alder Hey. He also supports other research activities within the Trust and works as an acute paediatrician.
James is training advisor for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) College Specialty Advisory Committees (CSACs) for Clinical Pharmacology and sits on the assessment board for the Prescribing Safety Assessment.
