Introduction
Songs make learning language fun. They can help your child learn new words.
By singing them again and again your child will know which bit comes next and enjoy the interaction with you. As your child becomes more familiar with the songs you can pause and let them fill in the missing word. This will also help your child take turns, listen and wait with anticipation to the song.
Common nursery rhymes
Why not try some of these Nursery rhymes with your child…remember to: sing slowly giving them a chance to join in, add some actions or signs to support language, wait for them to fill in words, and have a good time!
Wind the bobbin up,
Wind the bobbin up,
Pull, pull, clap, clap, clap.
Wind it back again,
Wind it back again,
Pull, pull, clap, clap, clap,
Point to the ceiling,
Point to the floor,
Point to the window,
Point to the door,
Clap your hands together, 1, 2, 3,
Put your hands upon your knee.
Five little speckled frogs
Sat on a speckled log
Eating some most delicious grubs.
One jumped into the pool
Where it was nice and cool
Then there were four green speckled frogs
Incey, Wincey Spider
Climbed up the water spout;
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out;
Out came the sunshine
And dried up all the rain;

Climbed up the spout again
