Referral to Baby Hip Clinic (166kB pdf)
Introduction
The aim of this leaflet is to inform you that you will shortly receive a letter from Alder Hey Hospital. You will be asked to ring Alder Hey to make an appointment at the Baby Hip Clinic.
Your baby will have been referred for an assessment at the Baby Hip Clinic because there is a concern that your baby is at risk of a hip problem. Only a small number of babies referred for screening will be found to have a problem.
Hip problems found in the early weeks of life can generally be treated with a splint. If the problem is left untreated your baby may need to have a prolonged period in a plaster cast or require surgery.
Remember
Ring Alder Hey Hospital as soon as you receive this letter so that there is no delay in your baby being allocated an appointment.
