Jacqui Pointon

This article has been tagged with the following terms: Elected Governors

Constituency: Staff, Nurses

Term of office: 1st term, 2022 to 2025

Who am I?

I’m very proud to have unbroken service as a Registered Mental Health nurse since starting my training in Shropshire in 1987. The majority of my clinical work has been across the Northwest and midlands with a few years in South London, mostly delivering services in the community and usually with children and young people’s mental health. I am extremely passionate about the NHS, so much so that my daughter’s middle name is Bevan!

What do I bring to this role?

I think a society can measure itself on how well it treats people at their weakest and most vulnerable. I feel strongly that as a health care provider and an employer we should ensure that equality and fairness are golden threads that run through everything we do.

I’m happy to be a staff governor at Alder Hey and would encourage anyone who’s curious to come and talk to me about what it means. Really looking forward to getting further involved with influencing the future of Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. As you can imagine I’m really excited about the fantastic new facilities, both on the park campus and the Liverpool Innovation park, so long awaited for our community teams, mental health teams and it will be great to bring the Children’s mental health inpatient unit back on site from Waterloo. These commitments show the Trust is working toward a true parity of esteem between the physical and mental health needs of children and also the vital connections between what happens before, after and during a hospital visit or stay.

I was born in Liverpool and feel like I’ve come home now. I am a proud mum to a son and daughter. I love animals and nature, play the Baritone in a Brass band, have experience as a choir leader and in 2019 as a member of the Voices of care choir sang “You’ll never walk alone” alongside Michael Ball and Captain Tom on the Royal Variety performance (I had to get that in, my kids say I always do!!)”
