At 8-years-old, Sophia is making finals in national league dancing competitions! What is even more impressive however, is what she has had to overcome to get here.
At eight months old, Sophia was brought to Alder Hey by ambulance after a heart murmur was discovered.
It turned out that Sophia had a PDA (Patent ductus arteriosus), meaning a blood vessel that connects the pulmonary artery to the heart did not heal as intended after birth.
This required heart surgery, where surgeons also discovered that one of Sophia’s lungs had collapsed and the other one had turned blue!
The seven-hour surgery was a resounding success and according to mum she started putting on weight immediately and looked much healthier and happier!
Sophia has since had a dancing lesson with Strictly Come Dancing star Shirley Ballas, and has competed in many dancing competitions.
