Children and young people taking part in clinical research trials, may need to visit our National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Facility (CRF).
The CRF has been designed with children and young people at heart, creating a friendly and open environment where research can take place safely, with the support of Alder Hey’s equipment and expertise.
Where is the CRF?
The CRF is located on the first floor, above the Outpatients Department and Costa Coffee.
To get the CRF easily, find the staircase/lift to the left of the Outpatients Department and behind Costa Coffee. Once you arrive on the first floor, you will see signs, directing you to the Clinical Research Facility.

What is the CRF?
The CRF is a self-contained, bespoke clinical area, based inside Alder Hey Hospital. It’s located on the first floor, near the main entrance, making it easy for our Children, Young People and their Families to find.
The CRF has specialist expertise in blood sampling in children of all ages, handling small-volume samples and is the only UK paediatric CRF with dedicated clinical pharmacologists.
What will I see in the CRF?
