We said hello to new neigh-bours this week for the first visit of beautiful ponies Moses and DJ to Alder Hey.
Their visit was the start of a new project between Alder Hey and Park Palace Ponies. Park Palace Ponies is a social enterprise and an urban riding school based in Dingle, Liverpool. They allow young people to ride and interact with many beautiful ponies such as Moses and DJ, who visited Alder Hey.
The new project, which was funded by the British Equestrian Federation, will see our children and young people based in Sunflower House, our new tier four mental health unit, meet and interact with ponies, once a week for 15 weeks.
Although our young people will not be riding the ponies, they will have the chance to walk them around some of the grounds of Alder Hey’s Children’s Health Campus. They will also help groom them and enjoy spending time with them. It helps provide companionship and a therapeutic benefit to our young people.
We are delighted to welcome our new Palace Ponies to Alder Hey. The young people absolutely loved interacting with such beautiful animals. We know this project will make a big difference to everyone who meets them, and we would like to thank everyone at Park Palace Ponies for making it happen.”

The first visit of our ponies (pictured) was not with any of the young people at Sunflower House but with some of our young volunteers who absolutely loved ‘horsing’ around with them.
