Using surplus capacity, Alder Hey offers a private MRI scanning service for children and young people aged 5–18.
This service is delivered by our expert paediatric teams, using the same state-of-the-art MRI technology found in our NHS services, and takes place in a calm, child-friendly environment designed to help young people feel comfortable and at ease.
NHS care always comes first. Private MRI appointments are offered using carefully managed capacity that does not impact NHS waiting lists and helps support the sustainability of our diagnostic services.
Our private MRI service includes:
- Advanced scanning technology providing excellent image quality
- A dedicated, child-centred environment
- Highly experienced paediatric radiology teams
- Supportive care designed to reduce anxiety and create a positive scanning experience
Private appointments are available at scheduled times agreed in advance, including:
- After school: 3.30–5pm
- Early mornings: 8–9am
Children and young people can be referred for a private MRI scan with a referral letter from a registered medical professional, such as a GP or consultant.
Income generated through private MRI services is reinvested to support NHS care for children and young people at Alder Hey.
