Today, we welcomed the Children’s Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, to Alder Hey.
The 10th of October is World Mental Health Day, so we gave Dame Rachel a tour of Sunflower House, our Tier 4 mental health inpatient facility, located on our Children’s Health Campus in Liverpool.
Dame Rachel was joined by Alder Hey Chief Executive Louise Shepherd for the tour, as well as some of the staff who are key to the running of Sunflower House.
“It was wonderful to host the Children’s Commissioner, Dame Rachel De Souza and her team at Sunflower House on World Mental Health Day. It was great to share experiences and learning with children and young people and colleagues and understand their challenges and hopes for the future – thank you to everyone for making the day so special”
Louise Shepherd, Alder Hey CEO
The Children’s Commissioner for England was impressive with what she saw on her visit, saying: “It was great to see Alder Hey’s new state of the art mental health inpatient ward which I first saw two years ago when it was being built.
The team are providing incredible care to the children they work with and also helping to improve mental health across Liverpool in a really innovative way.
I was delighted to hear from Alder Hey’s leadership team about the work they are doing to help local children by training teachers and staff across Merseyside to better support children’s mental health needs.”
