- Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, announced plans on Wednesday to give more power and autonomy to local leaders and systems.
- Alder Hey is one of eight trusts that will be among those assessed as part of the first wave of the Advanced Foundation Trust Programme.
- If the assessment process is successful, Alder Hey will have increased freedom to work with partners to plan and deliver health services for local communities.
Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, has announced that Alder Hey will be among a small number of organisations invited to apply for Advanced Foundation Trust status.
The Advanced Foundation Trust Programme was introduced as part of the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan, published in July. The plan sets out a refreshed vision for NHS foundation trusts, with a stronger focus on quality, partnership working and supporting care closer to home.
Achieving Advanced Foundation Trust status would give Alder Hey greater flexibility in how services are designed and delivered, allowing an even sharper focus on what matters most to children, young people and their families. It would also enable any surpluses to be reinvested directly into patient care, innovation and staff development, while simplifying oversight processes so that decisions can be made more quickly and locally.
This is a real moment of pride for Alder Hey and a reflection of the commitment, compassion and professionalism of our staff. It recognises our strong performance and reputation for delivering outstanding care and innovation.”
John Grinnell, Chief Executive of Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
“Advanced Foundation Trust status would help us work with our partners across Cheshire and Merseyside, and beyond, in even more flexible and collaborative ways, so together we can design services that deliver better outcomes for children, young people and families. This announcement is the first step on a longer journey, and we look forward to working closely with NHS England through the assessment process over the coming months.”
