Alder Hey is celebrating a continued strong performance after the latest NHS England operational statistics showed that the NHS delivered its highest-ever number of surgeries, tests, checks and elective appointments in a single financial year.
The new figures, published by NHS England, show the national waiting list fell by more than 312,000 over the past year, which is the largest year-on-year reduction in 16 years, with 65.3% of patients seen within 18 weeks nationally.
The results also highlight Alder Hey’s own strong performance across a number of key operational measures. In the latest National Oversight Framework (NOF) Q3 update, Alder Hey ranked 14th out of 134 NHS Trusts nationally and remained in Segment One, the highest-performing category.
Alder Hey performed strongly in a number of areas, including access to planned treatment, urgent care and management of finances:
- Ranked 3rd best performing Emergency Department in England
- Ranked 4th nationally for reducing long waits in the Emergency Department.
- More than 2 in 3 children are now being treated within 18 weeks, up from 1 in 2 children in April 2025.
- Maintained a strong financial position – ranked 3rd best performing Trust for delivering a financial surplus in line with budget plan.
“All staff at Alder Hey are passionate about meeting the needs of children and young people and providing outstanding care and treatment. Their dedication and commitment have delivered some incredible results this year. We are really pleased to have made a significant reduction our waiting list and many more patients are now waiting less times for treatment. It’s pleasing to see these achievements being recognised in the national league table, which places Alder Hey as one of the best performing Trusts in England.”
