Alder Hey and Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the beginning of a long-term partnership centred on clinical training, research, and academic collaboration.
The agreement, signed by Tracy Cousineau, Global Project Manager at Alder Hey, and Professor Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals, aims to elevate the standards of paediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery in Egypt.
Through observership-based fellowships in the UK, hands-on workshops in Cairo, and collaborative research on congenital heart disease and innovation in diagnostics, the partnership promises a lasting impact on paediatric care in Egypt.
The immediate projects that Alder Hey and Ain Shams are working on include cardiology, cardiac surgery and critical care, with emergency medicine and other specialities to follow.
Tracie said: “This partnership goes far beyond a formal agreement; it marks the beginning of a strategic relationship rooted in shared values, trust, and the mutual goal of creating world-class healthcare for children.”
“This collaboration reflects our shared vision for a healthier future for children. It is a powerful example of how two global institutions can come together to inspire progress in healthcare, medical education, and research.”
Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development at Ain Shams University
The MoU also outlines exchange programs for staff and students, co-supervision of academic theses, joint grant applications, and shared innovations in medical education. Both organisations expressed deep commitment to building a sustainable, high-impact model that will serve as a blueprint for future international healthcare partnerships.
