Springfield Park has been recognised as one of the country’s best green spaces after being awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award – the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.
The award recognises parks that are welcoming, safe, well-maintained and managed to the highest environmental standards, while providing benefits for the communities they serve. Managed by Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Green Flag Award is regarded as the benchmark standard for quality green spaces across the UK and around the world.
Springfield Park forms the heart of Alder Hey’s Children’s Health Campus and is open to everyone, providing an accessible space to relax, exercise, play, and connect with nature, helping to support both physical and mental wellbeing. It features walking routes, play spaces, open grassland, woodland, wetlands and wildlife habitats, creating opportunities for exploration and outdoor activity throughout the year.
“We’re incredibly proud that Springfield Park has been recognised with a Green Flag Award. The park is an important part of the healing environment we provide for children, young people and families, while also offering a fantastic green space for our local community. This award is also testament to the dedication of everyone involved in caring for and developing the park and a special thank you to Friends of Springfield Park, Liverpool City Council and everyone in the community for helping create this amazing space.” John Grinnell, Chief Executive of Alder Hey.

This award is also a testament to the dedication of everyone involved in caring for and developing the Park, and we are grateful to Friends of Springfield Park, Liverpool City Council and everyone in the community for helping create this amazing space.
Green Flag status reflects the continued commitment to maintaining Springfield Park as a clean, safe and welcoming environment while protecting and enhancing its natural habitats for future generations. Parks achieving the award are assessed against a wide range of criteria, including environmental management, biodiversity, accessibility, maintenance, safety and community involvement.
The Green Flag Award scheme celebrates the very best managed parks and green spaces, recognising places that are accessible, environmentally sustainable and valued by the communities they serve. More than 2,000 parks and green spaces now proudly fly the Green Flag across the UK and internationally.
