This week we celebrated Volunteers Week, to recognise and thank the incredible volunteers who help make Alder Hey such a special place for children, young people and their families.
We’re proud to have more than 115 active volunteers supporting teams across Alder Hey, with a further 32 currently in the recruitment process and seven preparing to start their volunteering journey.

Over the past year, our volunteers have dedicated around 18,000 hours of their time, supporting play activities, delivering arts and crafts activities, providing information and support and helping our staff create the best possible experience for our children, young people and their families.
Our Young Volunteering Programme, launched in 2022, continues to grow. Today, we have 15 active young volunteers, recruited from local schools as well as current and former patients, and we’re excited to welcome even more young volunteers when recruitment opens again this summer.
Your time, kindness, and commitment make an incredible difference every single day. You bring comfort to our children and young people, reassurance to families, and vital support to our staff. The compassion you show and the positivity you bring help make Alder Hey a warmer, more welcoming place for everyone. We are truly grateful for everything you do – your impact is felt far more than words can express.”
