Introducing Millie, a Finance Apprentice at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
How did you find out about this apprenticeship opportunity?
A lot of my colleagues have taken the same route, through an apprenticeship, to become qualified as a chartered accountant. Their positive feedback as well as support from my managers motivated me to find out more for myself. Also, I found the contacts and apprenticeship information shared in the Trust communications to be useful.
How has doing your apprenticeship supported your career pathway?
Continuing to study on an apprenticeship has given me more confidence in my abilities and has opened the opportunity of a development role to support me to progress to a higher band. The practical knowledge covered in the course is also helping me to understand what tasks and theory I need to be familiar with to continue to advance my career.
What has been the most challenging part?
The most challenging part is balancing the apprenticeship workload, my work and home life but both my colleagues and family have supported me, especially whilst I was getting into a good routine.
What has been the most rewarding part?
Passing the exams! After putting in the effort to study and prepare for the exam, passing is super rewarding.
Do you have any tips for future apprentices?
Get into a good routine with your studying, choose days and times that work for you and try to stick to them.
I’ve also found it helpful to seek support from others who have completed the same apprenticeship, as they’ll understand the material and what is expected of you.
