From 1st October 2025, Alder Hey will begin transitioning to the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) for prescriptions issued by the Developmental Paediatrics and Neurodevelopmental services.
During the transition period, some paper FP10 prescriptions may still be issued while EPS is embedded.
What is EPS?
The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is a secure NHS system that allows prescriptions to be sent electronically to a nominated pharmacy of the patient’s choice. This replaces the previous method of issuing and couriering paper prescriptions to the community pharmacy.
Benefits of EPS
The benefits of the Electronic Prescription Service include:
- Reduced risk of errors
- Improved convenience for families and pharmacies
- Environmentally friendly – less paper used
Repeat Prescriptions
The way you order repeat prescriptions will remain the same. Families should continue to request repeat prescriptions via the repeat prescription form.
Please continue to submit requests 3 weeks before the medication is due to run out.
What do I need to do?
Ahead of the introduction of EPS, it’s important that you have a nominated pharmacy.
What is a nominated pharmacy?
A nominated pharmacy is the pharmacy of your choice where your prescriptions will be sent electronically.
Why is it important to check my nominated pharmacy?
If your pharmacy details are incorrect or outdated, your prescription may be sent to the wrong place, causing delays in receiving your medication.
How do I check or update my nominated pharmacy?
You can check or change your nominated pharmacy using any of the following methods:
- Your GP Practice: contact your GP surgery to confirm or change your pharmacy details
- Your Pharmacy: ask your pharmacist to check and update your nominated pharmacy
- NHS App: log in and check under Your Health, View and Manage Prescriptions, then Your Nominated Pharmacy. To do this for your child Proxy access is needed.
