Neurology - Paediatric Neurology

Mum Nicola with JaydaThe Littlewoods Paediatric Neurology Ward is a is a 14-bed ward with nine beds, four cubicles and a telemetry suite and provides rehabilitation and care to children with Neurological conditions, as well as general medical patients up to the age of 18 years.

The Paediatric Neurology Ward is the tertiary care in-patient facility with trained nursing staff for assessment and treatment of acute and rapidly evolving neurological disorders in children including intractable epilepsy, movement disorders, neurological infections, neurodegenerative disorders and neuromuscular conditions. The ward is also the neurorehabilitation facility for children admitted acutely to the neurology and neurosurgical wards who require in-patient rehabilitation prior to discharge back to their home or local hospital. Specific ward features include a video telemetry cubicle for electroencephalography, therapy rooms, and an educational rehabilitation unit classroom for in-patients and those re-integrating into their local school.

The paediatric neurology department is a tertiary care facility for Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales and wider areas in the North West. The department deals with acute and rapidly evolving disorders requiring in-patient or out-patient assessment. Referral access to local GPs is provided for outpatient consults is currently being offered, however the focus and direction of the department is tertiary care in partnership with a network of secondary care paediatricians operating in a hub-and-spoke manner.

  • following our sons recent epilepsy diagnosis we met with Dr Kneen, clinic ran like clockwork no delays no excess waiting, as this was all very new to us Dr Kneen was excellent, we felt at ease and felt we were given the time to really discuss and ask questions, truly thankful to an amazing team!

  • I was on hold trying to phone switchboard for 10 mins!!! I find this absolutely unacceptable and appalling really! Something must be done as I am a doctor who was trying to refer a patient to the hospital and this is really a poor service by the hospital switchboard

  • We researched all the different surgery options for our baby girl and chose Alder Hey, and we were absolutely amazed by the whole experience. As traumatic as it was, we couldn’t have been in better hands and Mr Parkes and the team did a truly incredible job. She bounced back unbelievably quickly and now there is barely a scar to be seen!!
