Response from Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust To Media Coverage Today
Following coverage in today’s media about contraceptive devices being used at Alder Hey please see our response below:
Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust does not offer family planning services nor do we use Nexplanon implants on our patients.
On very rare occasions we may use devices that have contraceptive effects but we are not using them for these reasons – they are being used to treat purely medical conditions. These conditions can include complex endocrine cases and in patients undergoing anti-coagulant therapy. Patient confidentiality means that we cannot give details of individual patients’ medical conditions.
We have a detailed consent policy, which is followed for clinical procedures.
