Face 2 Face
Face 2 Face is a ground breaking new service in the Trust which offers emotional support to any parent/carer of a child with additional needs. This is a joint research project between the Charity Scope and Alder Hey.
This service is delivered by trained parent volunteers called ‘Befrienders’, each volunteer is the parent of a child with additional needs so they are aware of the emotional impact. Every ‘Befriender’ has taken part and successfully completed a 40 hour training course which enables them to offer support to other parents.
Every parent volunteer is supported by Vicky Harris the Senior Co-ordinator of the service and attends regular meetings where they receive ongoing support and training. If you are a parent who would like some support from Face 2 Face or would like more information about the service then please call Vicky on 07843467588 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
A Face 2 Face ‘Befriender’ will support a parent through all the worry, confusion and anxiety that can/may arise either when they suspect their child has additional needs or when their child has a diagnosis. For some this can come a number of years after the child was born if not at birth. We offer a parent the opportunity to meet a ‘Befriender’, who will encourage them to talk about how they are feeling. A parent volunteer will offer friendly and knowledgeable support. We offer 6 visits initially after which we will review and if we feel the parent would benefit then would offer more.
Support can take place in the referred parent’s home if they are a local parent, or if the parent is an in-patient with their child then we can offer support within the Trust during their stay. Each support session will last around 1 hour 15 minutes.
