Shivaram Avula

Shivaram AvulaI qualified from Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai, India (1995). I trained as a junior doctor in paediatrics and completed my radiology training at Liverpool. My specialist training in Paediatric Radiology included 18 months at Alder Hey children’s hospital (2006-2007) and as a year’s Fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada (2008). I was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist at Alder Hey in 2009.

My areas of clinical interest include Paediatric Neuroimaging and head & neck imaging. I am the local radiology lead for Northern Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Services (NorCESS) imaging and the joint lead for neuro-oncology imaging. I also have a special interest in neuro-metabolic disorders and perinatal neuroimaging.

I have an interest in MRI and neuroimaging research. My current research interest involves advanced MRI and brain tumour imaging including Intra-operative MR imaging performed during brain surgery.

Within the department, I am the clinical lead for MRI and I am supported by a fantastic team.
Outside the trust, I am a member and the current Chair of the European society of Pediatric oncology – Brain tumour imaging group (SIOPE- BTG).

Karen Chetcuti

Karen ChetcutiI obtained my Medical Degree from the University of Malta in 2005 and I completed my radiology training in the Liverpool Deanery in 2014. I specialised in Paediatric Radiology during my 18 month rotation at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in 2013-2014 and during my one year fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne in 2015-2016. I was appointed as Consultant Paediatric Radiologist at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in 2016.

My subspecialist areas include Foetal MRI and Paediatric Cardiac Imaging. I am also involved in Low Resource Setting Radiology and am the co-chair for the British Society of Paediatric Radiology Outreach Group. I am affiliated with Médecins Sans Frontières and the World Federation of Paediatric Imaging and provide opinions by teleradiology for imaging acquired in Low Resource Settings.

Srikrishna Harave

Krishna HavareI have been a consultant Paediatric Radiologist at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool since 2010. After graduation, I underwent training in clinical paediatrics and obtained MRCPCH in 2003. Subsequently I trained in general radiology at Portsmouth followed by Fellowships in Paediatric Radiology at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool and at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto.

My special interests are in Oncology imaging, neonatal imaging and respiratory imaging. I also have an interest in post graduate education and training and am currently the departmental College Tutor and Educational Supervisor. I am the departmental audit lead and organise the radiology audit and update meetings. I also jointly organise the North West Paediatric FRCR IIB course. I am currently a college examiner and member of the RCR Anatomy examination committee.

Siobhan Hoare

Siobhan HoareI’ve been working at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation trust since April 2015.

I also work one afternoon a week at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. I’ve trained in Dublin, Ireland and at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London.

My main area of interest is paediatric interventional radiology – I use imaging such as Ultrasound and x-ray to preform image-guided biopsies, drainages, sclerotherapy, insertion and change of feeding tubes.

I also perform Ultrasound and Fluoroscopy as well as report plain films, CT and MR images.

Musa Kaleem

Musa KaleemAfter qualifying from King Edward Medical University (Pakistan) in 1998, I undertook post-graduate training in Paediatric Medicine in Surrey and Wales.  In 2001, I joined specialist training in Diagnostic Radiology in Merseyside that culminated in a Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Radiology at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital (2005-6).

My seven year tenure as a consultant at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital allowed me to work at the prestigious old hospitals (Pendlebury and Booth Hall) before relocation to the brand new Children’s Hospital site in 2009.  I re-joined the Alder Hey Radiology team in January 2014 to pursue a dominant interest in paediatric cardiac cross-sectional imaging.

I practice in all areas of paediatric diagnostic imaging including plain radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, MRI and radio-nuclide imaging.

  • Musculoskeletal (imaging of bone and soft tissue diseases including ultrasound and MRI)

  • Non-accidental injuries (imaging of suspected cases of child abuse, preparing reports for the Police and Social Services and providing expert opinion and legal evidence in the Court)

  • Endorcine (imaging for disorders of sexual differentiation- DSD)
  • Bowel MRI (imaging of small bowel using MRI scanning)
  • Botulinum injection therapy for tight muscles and excessive oral secretions in mentally handicapped children using ultrasound guidance

Caren Landes, Consultant Paediatric Radiologist and Service Group Lead for Radiology

Caren LandesI have been a Consultant Radiologist at Alder Hey since completing my Specialist Training in radiology 2006 and during that time I have developed a special interest in musculoskeletal imaging in children and imaging in suspected non accidental injury.

As a result of this interest I am the Radiology lead for the Rheumatology, Orthopaedic and Skeletal Dysplasia Multidisciplinary Team Meetings.

Outside the Trust I have delivered a number of invited lectures at Regional, National and International meetings and I offer a second opinion reporting service to Trusts looking for a specialist opinion.

I work with a fantastic Radiology Team including Clerical staff, Radiographers, Sonographers and Consultant Radiologists, all of whom work together to ensure that any child visiting the Radiology Department at Alder Hey feels relaxed, comfortable and in good hands during their visit.

Kate Taylor-Robinson

Kate Taylor-RobinsonI have been a consultant here at Alder Hey since 2010 having first worked here in as a paediatric radiologist in my final year specialist placement as a registrar in 2008 within the Mersey Radiology Training Scheme.

My particular clinical interests include paediatric oncological Imaging and I am a core member of the solid tumour multidisciplinary team here at Alder Hey. I also provide radiology input for the weekly nephrourology MDT.

Within the radiology department I am the clinical lead for ultrasound supporting an excellent team of paediatric sonographers.
