Copy of Daniel O'Connor 06,11,11 (2)The South Sefton Paediatric Physiotherapy Team are a team of specialist physiotherapists and assistants with the passion, experience and commitment to achieve the best possible outcomes for all the families and children in our care.

We have years of experience and expertise in helping our families to manage neurodisability (conditions affecting children’s development). It is important to us that this, combined with our friendly and caring approach, means that you can be confident that the treatment provided is of the highest quality. All of our families are unique, each with their own challenges and aspirations. We will work with you to plan how we can best help you to achieve your goals. We’ll work together as a team, ably assisted by our support staff.

What we do

We firmly believe that physiotherapy should be patient centred. This means that your problems and the goals you want to achieve is of paramount importance to us. We want to give you the best available service as quickly as we can and at a place and times that best meets your child’s needs.

Getting the most from your treatment

We believe the first step in helping you and your child is to understand your concerns for your child . All our physios work hard to help you understand your child’s condition. Any treatments or exercises the physio uses will be clearly explained. We like questions and are always happy to explain. Our physiotherapy input is designed to produce the best possible result for our families.

Working with others

We pride ourselves on our strong working relationships with other professionals. These may be from health, education, social care or the voluntary sector. We work closely together to make life easier for you and try to ensure that services are seamless.

Beyond the symptoms (diagnosis)

All our physios perform a complete assessment that helps them to find the reasons behind your child’s developmental problems. We will then concentrate treatment on working with you to ensure that your child can have as full and active a social, family and school life as they are able.

Physios who care

At South Sefton Physio there are no Physio – Dinosaurs. All our physios continually update their skills keeping them great at what they do. Our physios are enthusiastic professionals that go the extra mile in supporting their families. We are committed to providing a high quality service that’s aims to improve the lives of the families in our care.

Meeting your needs

We do our best to provide you with what you are looking for. We offer flexible appointment times at a range of locations including our base at Good Shepherd, Special Schools, Nursery, Mainstream School and Home visits where indicated. We work closely with Professionals from Health , Education, Social and Voluntary care sectors, but most of all you.

Who do we see?

Primarily we see children with Neurodevelopmental problems and Neurodisability

This involves providing specialist physiotherapy treatment for children between 0 and 19 years with conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Delay, Muscular Dystrophy, Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and other lifelong conditions.

We have experienced paediatric physiotherapists who can offer a variety of treatments options to children so that they can do as well as they possibly can. Paediatric physiotherapy can provide the following benefits:

  • Improved function
  • Improved balance
  • Increased muscle strength
  • Increased joint range of movement
  • Progression of developmental milestones
  • Normal movement re-education
  • Regain independence
  • Help to reduce contracture and deformity

There are a number of treatment options that will depend on a child’s functional ability and rehabilitation goals:

  • Advice on Handling and Positioning
  • Stretching exercises
  • Muscle strengthening techniques
  • Re-education of normal movement patterns
  • Developing functional skills and independence
  • Coordination and Balance training
  • Hydrotherapy (a block of treatment may be offered when this is deemed to be your child’s primary mode of treatment)

Physiotherapy is an excellent way of maximising a child’s abilities and gaining a sense of independence. For more information on paediatric physiotherapy, please call our team on 0151 252 5729.

Your comments and experiences

  • My daughter Beth and I, have been fortunate enough to have had fantastic support from this team since Beth moved to Rowan Park school in 2014. Recently things have been very difficult for us as a family due to cuts in my daughter’s care package and Debbie Dryden has been instrumental in providing specialist input to ensure Beth gets the Physio support she needs and deserves whilst at home, as well as at school. The quality of Debbie’s professional advice and also her caring manner is exceptional. She typifies everything you would ever want in a health professional. Debbie has made time, despite an incredibly busy schedule, to attend lengthy MDT meetings for my daughter and I am hugely grateful for this. As a suggestion I do think providing evidence to support applications for funding is increasingly a vital component of the job role for physios and this should be more formally recognised and time allocated accordingly. Thanks again.

  • Hi there I did this in 2005 at the Good Shepherd Near building of Rowan High School I love take my friend shoes down and Standing Fame

  • Hi I have been under the care of the south Sefton team since a baby and I am now nearly 14 and have received the best care possible from the team . I have undergone a operation recently and the help from the hole team was amazing with all the home visits and support and the extra equipment supplied and installed by the team I would also like to give special thanks to Eileen Faris .

  • I’ve been getting physio for as long as I can remember and all this time and every time I go I get high quality treatment (as always) Although I understand that my problems cannot be complety fixed, you have helped me to at least get a bit stronger. Thankyou to Eileen Faris and the team

  • We would like to say ‘thank you’ to the South Sefton team for their continued hard work, support and commitment they give with some of the pupils with whom they work. We have had the privilege to work with Rosemary Turner for a number of years and more recently she has been joined by Vicky Matthews. Their expert and comprehensive knowledge and advice coupled with their warn, calm and caring personalities, really reassure both our staff and parents. Nothing is ever too much trouble!
    Thank you!

  • Wow what can I say about the physios from South Sefton. My son Callum was referred to the team when he was 6 months old. Over the last 7 years Callum has been looked after by Carole and Rosemary. Carole from the minute we met her we felt at ease, she explained Callum’s disability to us and she was always there when we needed her. We think she helped Callum grow into the pleasant little boy he is today she was not only are physio but she was our friend too. Callum adored her, when she told us she was passing him on to Rosemary we were sad. But then we met Rosemary. Rosemary is fantastic she handles are boy (as she calls him) so very well, she always has fantastic ideas and supports us at all times. We have recently had to make one of are hardest decisions for Callum and she was with us every step of the way. Callum was put forward as a candidate for SDR surgery and Rosemary went that extra mile to fight are corner. Callum is now 3 months post op and the care we have received from Rosemary has been heartwarming she has given us physio programs to help his progress, helped Callum’s one to one in school and also organised hydropool sessions with Debbie. The whole team is fantastic but I don’t know what we would have done without Rosemary Turner xx

  • Our son Luke has a fantastic physiotherapist Debbie Dryden she is very professional and very caring and nothing is every to much for her. Luke loves going to physio because Debbie and the girls make it fun and Luke works hard at the same time. We our very lucky at Rowan Park to have such a wonderful caring team. Debbie, Hillary, Vicky, Elaine and Lorraine thank you for all your hard work Luke loves you all xx

  • I would just like to comment on how fantastic my daughter Mia’s physiotherapist, Debbie Dryden is. She has looked after Mia for many years now and has always been so lovely to both of us. Debbie is always there to answer any questions that I have and is always so helpful and happy. Myself and Mia think Debbie is the best physiotherapist and would like thank her for everything that she does for Mia….Thanks Debbie 🙂

  • Since moving to the Sefton team from the Wirral, we’ve had nothing but positive change with our daughter. Juliet has helped Freya come on leaps and bounds within a very short time! Thanks to Juliet, Freya can now walk small distances (in her walking frame) and for this i can never thank her enough! Juliet is to enthusiastic with Freya’s sessions and always gives us the best possible advice and care plan for Freya at home. Shes an amazing physio! Truly grateful shes Freya’s 🙂

  • We do not have words to thank our son Veron’s physiotherapist Ms Rosemary Turner who has been so helpful and kind towards her patient. She has been extremely professional and went to extra mile following our son’s hip reconstruction surgery. She took the overall responsibility and ownership of our son’s health and wellbeing and brought smile on his face by organising trips to the football match. She made us realise, people still care and there are good heart out there. Rosemary should be the role model who makes people to look ahead, bring hope and joy to life. We wish you Rosemary all the best and would like to say thank you for everything you did for our son. We are ever so grateful to you for your kind work; love and affection you showed throughout your profession. Amrit-Nuray Malik

She gives Abbie lots of encouragement and praise throughout her physio sessions and makes them lots of fun which Abbie loves.Abbie loves her physio sessions with Hilary. Hilary is only a phone call away whenever we need her and nothing seems too much trouble. Thank You Hilary for everything we cannot express enough how lucky we are to have you . You are our unsung hero ! Xx

  • My son Louie has right sided hemiplegia. He has physio sessions with Hilary either at school or in the house. Hilary and Louie have built up the loveliest relationship which is a testament to Hilary as Louie definitely isn’t an easy one to crack !! She is always so supportive and patient and whenever I have needed advice she is always on hand and so helpful. Thank you so much Hilary.
I would also like to say a big thank you to Juliet. Who was Louie`s physio before he started school. She was a mind of information. Always there to push things forward and we have a lot of Louie`s achievements to thank her for.
    A fabulous team !

  • My daughter has received the most fantastic care and support from the physio team! Rosemary, her main physio, is so knowledgeable and full of wonderful ideas and exercises to keep Holly developing. Her support and care have been invaluable. I know that if we need anything she will always be there.Thank you!

  • My son has an above the knee amputation of the right leg. We were introduced to Rosemary after our physio sessions ended at Alder Hey. Rosemary did a lot of Internet research to make sure that we received the correct physio therapy treatment and also spoke with the physio’s at Birmingham Royal Orthopeadic, where my son had his operation. Rosemary is always very supportive and full of encouragement, especially after a long day at school!! We know that if we need anything at all Rosemary is only a phone call away. Thanks for all your support 🙂

  • My daughter and myself where invited by juliet to come along to the hydrotherapy pool on witch I wasn’t to sure on wot to expect, I was pleasantly surprised how great it was and how much my daughter loved it. Her face lights up every time she see’s the pool, she gets to play with lots of toys in the water as she woundn’t be able to in a public baths and it is not as overwhelming by all the noise you would normally get in the baths. We look forward to going every week:)

  • Juliet has been seeing my son for the last year and I can’t thank her enough for her support. I had been given a bit of misguided information when I first met her and was a bit of a tearful mess. Juliet gave me the correct information and her support has been amazing. She is very enthusiastic about her therapy and always full of new ideas to help my son. Juliet is very approachable and always available for any question or worry I may have. The team are wonderful and all very caring and helpful. I feel lucky that we live in the Sefton area and have such a great team to support us.

  • My little boy has seen both Juliet and Hilary and they have both been fantastic. Juliet has been so helpful, always there if i have any questions and i can see how much she genuinely cares and helps to ensure my son is getting all the help he needs. The ladies are also brilliant with him, he is made to feel comfortable and relaxed and has fun when he sees them which is lovely. I cant thank them enough.

  • We are truly grateful for the help and support we receive from Juliet, she is aways on hand to take our call and advise us when necessary and goes beyond her role to ensure that J receives the best possible care. We have had physio from another county and Sefton are by far a fantastic service.
Thank you so much for all you’ve done and continue to do for us.

  • My Daughter Jessie received a Trike from a charity and has recently been out on it for the First time! she’s able to turn the peddles just enough to move and she’s all smiles and WE are all absolutely over the moon. Jessie has some of her own independence and its really rewarding to watch.. Thanks to the support for her therapist.. feeling positive for our future 🙂
