I started in Alder Hey in June 2009 following my fellowship in the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. I trained in several hospitals across the UK including Great Ormond Street.

Along with general paediatric neurosurgery my special interests include epilepsy surgery, craniofacial surgery and brain and spine abnormalities in unborn babies (fetal CNS anomalies).

My specialisms are epilepsy surgery, craniofacial surgerny and fetal CNS anomalies.

Conor Mallucci

Having qualified in London at University College in 1989 he went on to train in neurosurgery in Birmingham, Nottingham and then Paris.

He has lectured internationally on his subject including guest lectures at the World congress on Hydrocephalus and International Society of paediatric Neurosurgeons. He is medical advisor to the charitable Association of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (ASBAH).
  • He sits on the NIHR pediatric neuro-oncolgy research group and is the surgical lead for ependymoma studies and craniopharyngioma.
  • He has just published an extensive international textbook on CSF disorders.

Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeon with special interest in hydrocephalus and neuro-oncology.
The department has the only dedicated Intra-operative MRI for children in the UK

Clinical interests
Hydrocephalus, Brain Tumors, Spina-bifida, Neuro-endoscopy, advanced navigation and Intra-operative MRI for brain tumours.

Additional information
Conor is committed to the development of his field and in improving outcomes in children with brain tumours and hydrocephalus. He has just finished his tenure as chairman of the British Paediatric Neurosurgery Group and continues to chair their research group. Having published extensively in the literature on brain tumours, hydrocephalus and neuroendoscopy and technical advances in neurosurgery in general, he has over 75 publications in international peer reviewed journals and has recently edited and published an International collaborative textbook on CSF disorders which was highly commended at the 2010 BMA book awards.

He is currently deputy editor of the British Journal of Neurosurgery and the associate editor of the European journal Child’s Nervous System.

Ajay Sinha

Qualified in 1987. Neurosurgical training started at the All India Institute of Medical sciences, New Delhi, India. Subsequently trained in UK and followed up with a skull base and pituitary fellowship in Toronto, Canada. Fellowships in Paediatric Neurosurgery and Craniofacial Surgery.

Department and Specialities

Neurosurgery training began in India at the prestigious All India institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. I had further training in the UK and followed it up with a clinical fellowship at Toronto University, Canada.

I have been a consultant at Alder Hey since 2007. I have a particular interest in craniofacial surgery and anterior skull base surgery.

I am part of the multidisciplinary craniofacial team. I still retain a small adult neurosurgery practice based at the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool which is built mainly on endoscopic pituitary surgery, complex hydrocephalus and spinal degenerative disorders.

Craniofacial Surgery, Pituitary Surgery, Paediatric Head Injury. Involved in Multidisciplinary Craniofacial and Pituitary Clinics.
