Miss Mary Hernon graduated from University of St Andrews in 1991 then Manchester in 1994. She trained in Manchester, Wellington New Zealand and throughout the Mersey region. She has worked in obstetrics and gynaecology for most of her career and was a consultant at Leighton Hospital in Crewe for four years before taking up her joint post at Alder Hey and the Liverpool Women’s Hospital in February 2012.
Mary was trained by Professor Anne Garden and obtained the special skills module in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology (PAG) from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the British Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecologists in 2009. She has received training from Professor Sarah Creighton at University College Hospital London. She is co-author of the book Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology for the MRCOG and beyond.
She has organised and lectured on training days about PAG. She is developing the transitional services for gynaecology from children’s to adult services and the laparoscopic surgery for congenital anomolies service together. She has provided a service addressing young people’s sexual health at clinics at The Brook, Liverpool in the past and is part of the multidisciplinary team for managing patients with disorders of sex development. She sees adult gynaecology patients at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital and Aintree.

Dr Caroline Sanders MBE PhD, RCN, PGC psycho sexual therapy, BSc Hons
Undergraduate training completed in Manchester in 1996 having spent time in Canada and Melbourne. She leads a urology nurse service and delivers direct patient care for children and young people with dysfunctional voiding and complex lifelong uro-genital problems and gynaecology problems.
Specialisms: Disorder of sex development, nursing research, hypospadias care, gynaecology including reconstructive surgeries and urodyanmcis.
Outside of work Caroline enjoys walking and is currently working on a 1940’s Chevy.
Qualifications: Phd, BSc(Hons), PGD psychosexual therapy, RGN, RSCN, NIHR CAT and NIHR senior award.
