Your comments and experiences

  • After suffering with tonsillitis every few months, we were referred to a specialist. We waited 7 months for the appointment but we were told that a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomeny. We’re so thankful! Staff could not have been more helpful.

  • I couldn’t be any more grateful for the care my daughter has received while being under ENT at alder hey & especially from Ian street. She has had 2 lots of grommets fitted in the space of 18months. Each time we were given an appointment very quick and all questions were answered. I couldn’t fault them especially after my own hospital couldn’t see any problems with her!! Finally on the road to recovery, we hope anyway.

  • We brought our son noah that’s 8 in on Sat 4th February 2017 from warrington.Mr Donn is amazing!!!if it wasn’t for his quickness and being the amazing person he is it could have been catastrophic.noah they found had 2 abbsess at the back of his throat near his spinal cord in his neck.he did an emergency drainage and it was successful!!!!!it was such in a tricky place so it was a serious operation.his expertiseis is just fantastic and my son took to him so much.he gave my son fantastic care and the team helped him over a week to get back to better health. To see the complete dedication and care was so endearing and we are in complete awe and gratitude in helping our son back to health.thankyou so so much.

  • Absolutely brilliant
    Mr Donne!!!
If there was a person made for this job it’s him.
5 years ago my older son had problems with tonsils and adenoids causing sleep apnea.
He went through every thing with us , took his tonsils and adenoids out and looking into his air way on a second op,
He has such a calming way about him I felt like my son was safe with him so when my other son was 6mths he started having ear and throat infections.
he was under another consultant till he was about one and half i asked to change to mr Donne as we were getting no where.
With around 7weeks of seeing mr Donne he had surgery and is like I different child
From having infection every other week to being able to hear and be pain free,
I would highly recommend seeing him,
So grateful to him for sorting my boys out.
Thankyou to all the nurses on ent and all the staff from the theatre waiting area and recovery

  • Today I spoke to two members of staff; one in the bookings department and one of the ENT secretaries. Both were very pleasant and did their very best to help me regarding some previous confusion and misinformation.

Thank you for your patience and empathy!.

  • we are still waiting for an appointment 2 years on for bad tonsils. nothing good to say being honest.

  • We attended Alder Hey for an ENT appointment for my son Ben today. Massive thanks to Dr Ian Street and his team for assessing and treating Ben quickly and professionally.
Dr Street was brilliant when explaining everything to my son despite him asking 3000 questions! making his visit to hospital enjoyable and stress free. Thank you.

  • This is the only clinic at Alder Hey I’ve had problems with and my eldest goes to at least 4 other clinics. My youngest son who is 8 was last seen by ENT clinic Jan 2015 and was due to go back Jan 2016 to see if an operation is required on his ear. We are still waiting for an apointment to come through, I ring the apointment line at least once a month with no joy, then ring the Secretary with no answer. In the mean time my son suffers on a daily basis with his ear. I’m just about to get PALS number to help us out.

  • Thank you to Su De, Mr.Clarke & ward 3a especially Cassie Shelly Karen & Gemma. Amazing people doing an excellent job. Also all on SAL & anaesthetic teams. Our sons care could not have been better. Very thoughtful caring people. The new hospital is lovely. Everyone we met made a horrible experience much more pleasent for us and our son. We are very grateful.

  • My little boy who is 3 had his tonsils and adenoids out today on a day case, and I can’t thank the staff enough they were all amazing and so caring and understanding. It definitely made the experience a positive one for jack and nothing daunting. Thank for to all the ENT team, and heres to no more LOUD snoring 🙂

My family and I want to thank you all for the care medical and otherwise you gave our son DAYLEN.
The care, patients, kindness and understanding for our son meant so very much to us all.
Thanks to all the med staff on ENT ward 3AB; the ENT’S and NURSES. 👍

  • My son was seen in the ent clinic May 2015 he needed a six month follow up appointment. We are still waiting for this to happen as we are on a waiting list. I have called the booking line and there is nothing that can be done just have to wait for an appointment, mean while my son is having ear problems and recurring tonsilitis

  • My 2 Year Old Son Kyle Came In On Thursday 7th April’2016, As I Noticed A Lump On The Right Side Of His Neck & Within The 2 Week’s It Got Big, Only To Be Told It Was An Abscess, The ENT Doctors Took Over & He Spent From Friday Until Tuesday’12th On The Surgical Ward, He Had An Incision To Drain The Abscess & The Doctors Were Amazing, I Can’t Thank Them Enough, Thank You Very Much

  • Absolutely impossible to speak to ENT secretaries – phone number just rings out. Switchboard even commented that they had not been able to connect a call for over a week!!! I went through PALS who emailed the secretaries direct with my contact details … I was then contacted by a secretary within the hour. I do not understand (as obviously someone was in the office) why my initial calls were left unanswered?
Not good enough when you are chasing results and appointments!

  • An appointment was arranged for my son in July. He can’t be seen till November 25th. Got a letter saying its been moved till 25 Feb 2016.

What makes it really horrible is a letter was just sent without reason after taking the week off to make that appointment, I’m now forced to stay at home without any reason.

July 2015 till Feb 2016…Thats 7 months from referral to actual appointment.

I think whoever made that decision is utterly selfish. At least, the courtesy to call to give reasonable reason might make sense…

Service utterly horrible from the ENT to Call Centre to Choose and Book Service…Horrible.

  • My 9 year old son came to Alder Hey last Thursday for a tonsil reduction, Esophagoscopy and removal of a grommet. Everyone was fantastic, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The Anaesthetist put us and my son at ease. The consultant Dr Sujata De was lovely and approachable answering all of our questions. The staff on K1 were fantastic, especially Gill, Collette and the student nurse (sorry I’ve forgotten her name) nothing was too much trouble. Everyone made a stressful day a bit more manageable.

  • I can’t thank Mr Donne and his staff enough, my 10 year old son was transferred to Alder hey from ormskirk hospital last Tuesday evening as a emergency Mr Donne was called in from home and was there till very early hours, he completed a emergency op aswell as having 9 other operations a already booked in. • I was admitted to Alder Hey in September and if it wasn’t for the ENT specialists at this hospital I probably wouldn’t of been here as I was very ill with a infected piercing and was developing septicaemia. Can’t thank the nurses & doctors enough for what they did for me.

  • My 4 year old son had his tonsils and adenoids out due to his sleeping and breathing. We were treated amazing by the ward staff and Dr dunne, they got infected a few months later and Dr dunne brought my son straight in for treatment. I couldn’t ask for anything more he is a lovely man & great doctor thanks!

Had professional in op decision not to remove adenoids we were in overnight after tonsillectomy but even the first night post op was a sweet no snoring beautiful child. • A first time appointment for my daughter Lilly (5) on the 16th October

I was worried when I turned up to a packed waiting room with a children’s entertainer right in the middle. “oh god, how long are we going to be here?”

the reality it was a most perfect trip to the hospital for Lilly. She was entertained and looked after by the most professional and efficient team I’ve seen in a long time. The Consultant, Children’s entertainer, Nurse and Receptionist all made the experience a memorable one for all the right reasons.

Many thanks for making a chore a pleasure.

and a special thanks for the children’s entertainer (i’m sorry i can’t remember his name and even more sorry I can’t work out the coin in the bottle trick 🙂 )

    Many thanks from Lilly’s dad.

  • Our 2 year old daughter, Freya, was rushed into Alderhey from Bangor Hospital late Thursday evening after swallowing a £1 coin! It was such an horrific day for us as parents, Freya herself was amazing, but being in the care of all the doctors and nurses on L2 ward was just fantastic! They made us feel completely at ease and Freya was cared for so well.
Thank you so much to Dr Donne & all the nurses & support staff on ward L2.
