Dr Shirley Clugston
I started working in Alder Hey in April 2012. Previous to this I have worked in general dental practice and in community dentistry. My role in community dentistry in Liverpool involved providing general anaesthetic extractions as well as supervising dental students in outreach clinics in Liverpool.
I have been in Liverpool since 1982. I originally came over to study at the Dental School and have not left Liverpool since. I enjoy treating children who have various challenges in regarding how we manage their care. These challenges may be associated with their medical history such as diabetes, epilepsy or bleeding disorder s. Other types of challenge may be behavioural; when we treat children and adolescents with autism, leaning difficulties or attention deficit disorder.
I also enjoy working in theatre in the day surgery unit. This involves providing comprehensive care for some patients who require extractions and restorations. I particularly value working in a team which can be very rewarding.
I enjoy the diversity of the work in Alder Hey as 2 days are never the same. I also work in general dental practice which tends to be not as diverse
I am a generalist with a special interest in treating nervous patients
