Alder Centre - Bereavement Care Services

alder_centre_webThe Alder Centre is set in peaceful grounds, the Garden of Life which is a quiet place to sit and reflect. It is a place of refuge and healing, and a celebration of life.

The Alder Centre appreciates Comtechsa and Novartas as well as staff from Barclays Bank for the creation and maintenance of the garden.

Light up a Life

The Light Up a Life service takes place annually at the Alder Centre.

The service includes the singing of carols and readings, which gives people an opportunity to remember their loved one at what can be a very difficult time of year.

A tree in the garden is covered in lights, each one in memory of someone who will not be sharing Christmas with us. We invite you to remember someone special in a positive way by sponsoring a light on our tree. The lights will be switched on during this event and will remain illuminated until the New Year.

If you would like to sponsor a light, please contact the Alder Centre; you are welcome to join us for this event even if you do not wish to sponsor a light.

Please note: The Light up a Life event is outdoors with standing room only and approximately one hour’s duration. A hot drink will be provided free of charge in Ronald Mc Donald House afterwards. A BSL interpreter and a lip speaker will be present at both events.

Date & time of the next service: Sunday 27 November 2016, 6pm at the Alder Centre

Cathedral Candle Service

A non-denominational service of remembrance for children is held every December in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral. It is organised by Alder Centre volunteers and staff, and bereaved parents, siblings and friends all participate. Along with songs and readings, a central part of the service is the reading of children’s names and lighting of candles in their memory. Being in the presence of so many others affected by the death of a child and united in grief can be a comforting experience and people speak of how much it can help them at this difficult time of the year.

Date & time of the next service: Thursday 15th December 2016, 7.30pm – 9pm

Admission and car parking is free, and no booking is required.

All are welcome to attend without the need to book a place; to register a child’s name please arrive by 7pm to allow names to be listed in time for the start of the service.

If you are unable to attend but wish to have a child’s name read out, please inform the Alder Centre in advance by calling 0151 252 5391.

Book of Remembrance

A Book of Remembrance is kept in the Alder Centre. You may have an inscription included and can also insert a photograph of your child. The book is there at any time for you to look at.

Every Year, on the anniversary of a child’s death, it is opened to the inscribed page as a celebration of your child’s life and to mark their passing.
