Communications Team Pride of North West
Alder Hey’s Communications Team were the big winners at the 2014 CIPR North West Pride Awards. The awards, which celebrate PR practitioners, businesses and organisations working in the North West of England, was hosted by Manchester journalist and broadcaster Nina Warhust and took place at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.
The team picked up Gold Awards for Healthcare Campaign and Not-for-Profit Campaign, while the title of Outstanding Young Communicator was awarded to Web and Digital Officer Matt Dunn. They also won a Silver Award for Outstanding In-house Public Relations Team and were finalists in the Best Use of Media Relations and Low Budget Campaign categories. Interim Director Hil Berg received the Outstanding Freelance Practitioner award.
Judges commented that the team had “showed a positive, integrated digital and social media approach to demonstrate how Alder Hey is working to improve the health of children through research, innovation and clinical research. With a small budget, there was a heavy lean on media relations, generating meaningful media partnerships and pursuing news and feature coverage. A considerable amount of support from celebrities, television and documentaries resulted in a high profile not just in the North West but nationally. A worthy Gold winner.”
The judges were also impressed with Matt Dunn’s passion and enthusiasm for Alder Hey and his role within it saying “He consistently pushes boundaries with new ideas and concepts, including pioneering the use of digital tactics within the organisation, producing engaging content across a variety of channels. Matt’s work has clearly helped Alder Hey achieve its fundraising targets and create an ever-increasing audience with which to share its stories.”
On accepting his award Matt commented: “I am incredibly humbled to win this award and I’m proud to be part of the team here at Alder Hey. For the team to come away with so many CIPR awards is a remarkable achievement and demonstrates the incredible work of my colleagues over the last 12 months.”
Abi Whitfield MCIPR, Chair of CIPR North West, commented: “Yet again we have seen a significant increase in the quality and quantity of entries coming through. The PRide Awards are the most prestigious regional PR awards in our calendar, so it is great to see so many people coming together to celebrate the best of the North West’s talent and campaigns.”
