Alder Hey in Top 25% of Hospitals Inspected by Care Quality Commission*

Alder Hey in the ParkServices provided by Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust have been rated as ‘Good’ overall and ‘Outstanding’ for caring by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), England’s independent regulator of health and social care following a re-inspection in June 2015.

Today’s announcement places Alder Hey in the top 25% of Hospital Trusts that have been inspected by the CQC.*

The Trust was able to demonstrate clear improvements to resolve issues identified in a previous inspection in 2014, when the Trust was rated as ‘needs improvement’.  These included the recruitment of over 80 additional nurses; improvements in the transition of young people into adult services and in risk management processes.

Louise Shepherd, Chief Executive of Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust said “This quality endorsement from the independent regulator reflects the enormous efforts of every single member of our staff.  I would like to thank each and every one of them; they are dedicated and compassionate people doing their very best for the children, young people and families in our care, so the achievement of ‘outstanding’ for caring is a source of particular pride. We have responded to all the points that the CQC raised last year to further raise the quality of our services. Of course, we still have some areas to improve and that work has started already.”

Sir David Henshaw, Chair of Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust said: “2015 has been a momentous year for us, we have built and opened a unique new hospital in a park which provides a world-class healing environment; and now we finish the year with an independent endorsement of the high quality of services provided by the Trust, and the outstanding care from our employees. This solid base enables us to further developing our services in partnership with others and drive our programmes of innovation, research and education to improve the health of children and young people everywhere.”

The CQC’s Chief Inspector of Hospitals, Professor Sir Mike Richards, said: “The trust has made significant improvements across the board and staff should be proud of what they have achieved. We saw that staff across the organisation were passionate about their work and committed to delivering and securing the best for the children and young people they cared for.”

  • I hour and 30 minutes wait in clinic
    today .Informed todays problem was the computers .Lots of teething problems that need addressing throughout the hospital .Eg Directions very poor inside the hospital ,New hydro pool already not working ,Appointments constantly being cancelled and rearranged .Follow up appointments some are not given .Community paediatric appointments constantly being cancelled rearranged then cancelled againl . Very disappointed.
    Staff are trying their upmost to remain positive in what are clearly challenging situations .
