A Message To Families From Louise Shepherd, Chief Executive
Alder Hey has been contacted by the media this week about some of the work we have been doing to improve the working environment in our theatre department. Specifically, we have been asked about a recent report by our Director of Nursing which was shared at our public Board meeting in December 2013 which discussed some staff concerns identified in that area and made recommendations for how we can improve.
We would like to reassure all our patients and families that the issues identified in the report relate to the working environment within the theatre department and that there have been no incidents of patient harm as a result of those issues. However the report has been extremely helpful in identifying important areas for improvement. A full action plan is now in place and being carried forward by staff and the Board together.
Alder Hey is very proud of the work of our team in theatre and deep commitment of to ensuring our children and young people receive the very best quality of care. This report and associated action plan is part of our ongoing commitment to support them in improving the way we continue to deliver and build on our track record as a centre of clinical excellence.
In response to media interest we have issued a statement Alder Hey Media statement 7th January 2014.
If you would like to read a full copy of the report you can download it here.
Finally, if you have any concerns about the report, or about the care your child has or may receive, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0151 252 5374.
Louise Shepherd, Chief Executive
