A Message To Families From Louise Shepherd, Chief Executive
Today you may have seen some media coverage of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) banding system that ranks hospitals across the UK. Alder Hey has again been included in the Band One category.
I would like to reassure our patients and families that none of the indicators flag any concerns about patient safety or quality of care at Alder Hey.
We have expressed our disappointment to the Care Quality Commission that we have again been included in their Band One list as it gives a very unfair impression of Alder Hey to the outside world.
The reason Alder Hey has been included in Band One relates to issues including:
- Three services missing the 18 week referral to treatment target
- Feedback from the national NHS Staff Survey
- Sickness absence for some staff groups
- Whistleblowing alerts in the last year
We are addressing the issues above and continue to share with the CQC our concerns regarding aspects of the methodology behind this new rating system. We are pleased that we will have further opportunity to discuss this with the CQC when they return to Alder Hey for a scheduled inspection later this year.
If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to call our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0151 252 5374 or 0151 252 5161.
